How can we help?

Recording a plot
How accurate is it?
As accurate as your phone's GPS: usually 3 to 5 metres in open sky, worse under trees or next to buildings. PlotStake shows the accuracy of each corner as you record it and keeps it with the record. For the best result, stand still at each corner for a few seconds before tapping, away from walls and tall trees.
The app says “weak GPS” at a corner. What should I do?
Undo that corner, wait in the open for 10–20 seconds until the accuracy improves, then add it again. A corner recorded with weak GPS is still saved. It's just marked as less certain.
Do I need signal or mobile data?
No. GPS works without any data. Recording, viewing your records and finding your way to them all work offline; backups and satellite maps catch up when you're next online.
I can't get to the land. Can I still record it?
Yes, two ways. You can draw it on the satellite map, and it's labelled “Drawn on map, not walked” everywhere. Or you can invite someone who's there to walk it for you, and watch the corners appear on your phone as they go.
Finding it again
How does “Take me there” work?
When you're far away, it opens Apple or Google Maps to get you to the area. In the last few hundred metres, PlotStake takes over: an arrow and distance to the plot's nearest corner, then it tells you when you're standing on your land.
Why does the arrow sometimes go faint?
That's the compass saying it isn't sure which way you're facing. Rather than point you the wrong way, PlotStake dims the arrow and leads with the distance. Moving your phone in a figure-of-eight usually recalibrates it.
The satellite map is blank where my plot is.
You're offline and the map for that area wasn't saved. You'll see survey paper with a scale bar instead. Your boundary, area and corners still work. Maps for your plots save automatically on Wi-Fi, or you can save one from the plot's page.
Walking a plot for someone
Someone sent me an invite code. What do I do?
Install PlotStake and sign in, then go to You → Walk a plot for someone and enter the code. Walk to each corner and tap “Add corner”. When you're done, hold to hand it over. The record goes to them; you keep no copy.
Can they see where I am?
Only the corners you tap, while the walk is open. Never your position between corners, and nothing at all after the walk ends.
Your records and account
Is my record backed up?
Every record says either “Backed up” or “On this phone only”. Records back up automatically whenever you're online; you can also tap “Back up now” on the You tab.
Can I get my data out?
Yes. On any plot, use “Share coordinates”, or “Export file” for a KML (Google Earth), GPX (GPS devices) or GeoJSON (mapping software) file.
Is a PlotStake record proof that I own the land?
No. It's your own careful record of where the land is and what you know about it. It isn't a title, survey or registration. Where formal registration exists, do that too.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: You → Delete account. It permanently deletes your records, photos and sign-in account.
