Agreeing to these terms
By using PlotStake, the app or this website, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it. If you use PlotStake on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you’re allowed to accept these terms for it.
What PlotStake is and isn’t
PlotStake helps you record the boundary of a piece of land or property by walking its corners with your phone, keep notes and photos with it, and find it again.
It is not a legal title, deed, cadastral survey or government registration, in any country. A PlotStake record does not prove ownership and does not replace a licensed surveyor, a lawyer or your land registry. Where formal registration exists, we encourage you to use it.
Accuracy
Positions come from your phone’s GPS, which is typically accurate to a few metres in open sky and less accurate under trees, near buildings or in bad weather. PlotStake shows the accuracy of every corner it records. Boundaries drawn on the map come from satellite pictures that may be years old and several metres off, and are always labelled as drawn. When you type a side’s length, PlotStake moves the corners to match it; the result is only as accurate as that number, and those sides are always labelled as measured. Maps, place search and satellite imagery come from third parties and may be out of date or wrong.
Don’t rely on PlotStake where an error of a few metres matters, for example to build on a boundary line or settle a dispute, without a professional survey.
Your account
You’re responsible for keeping your sign-in secure and for what happens in your account. Tell us at the support address if you think someone else is using it. You can delete your account at any time from You → Delete account in the app.
Your content
Your records, photos and notes are yours. You give us only the permission we need to store, back up and show them to you, and to process them as described in the privacy policy. When you delete them, that permission ends.
When you invite someone to walk a plot for you, the finished record belongs to your account. When you walk a plot for someone else, the record belongs to them, and you keep no copy.
Fair use
Don’t use PlotStake to:
- mislead anyone about who owns or has rights to land, including by presenting a PlotStake record as an official document;
- harass anyone, or record private property to monitor or intimidate the people who live there;
- break the law, or anyone else’s rights;
- interfere with the service, try to reach other people’s data, or overload our systems.
We may suspend accounts that do.
Subscriptions
PlotStake may offer paid features by subscription through the App Store. If it does, the price and period are shown before you buy, payment is taken by Apple, and the subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel it in your Apple ID settings, and restore purchases from the app. Apple’s standard licence terms apply to the app as distributed through the App Store.
Availability and changes
We work to keep PlotStake running and your records safe, but we can’t promise the service will always be available or free of errors. Your records are saved on your phone first, so an outage on our side doesn’t stop you seeing them. We may change or end features; if we ever shut PlotStake down, we’ll give you notice and a way to export your records first.
Liability
PlotStake is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses arising from relying on a boundary, an area or a map without professional verification. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t legally be limited, or your rights as a consumer where you live.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we’ll update this page and its date, and tell you in the app before a significant change applies to you.
